A teenage girl is in critical condition after she was shot on North Pierce Street Thursday afternoon, Lafayette Police say.
The shooting happened around 4 p.m. in the 1100 block of North Pierce Street. The juvenile girl and a male suspect were having a verbal altercation when the suspect pulled a firearm and shot the girl. Officers provided first aid before the girl was transported to a local hospital, where she was listed in critical condition Thursday evening, Lafayette Police Department spokesperson Sgt. Wayne Griffin said in a statement.
The shooting happened inside a residence and witnesses called 911. The male shooter fled the scene before officers arrived, Griffin said.
