The Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office is investigating an early morning homicide involving a 46-year-old woman in the 100 block of Lamas Circle.

Deputies responded to the area at 1:14 a.m. after a man called 911 to report that he had found the woman unresponsive and bleeding on the floor of the residence upon returning home from work, said Capt. Craig Stansbury, a spokesman for the Sheriff’s Office.

Stansbury said investigators are not releasing the identity of the caller or his relationship to the woman, adding that the caller is not believed to be involved in the incident.

The Sheriff’s Office is still awaiting autopsy results, but Stansbury said the incident is being treated as a homicide as there were obvious signs of foul play consistent with a homicide.

Investigators have also declined to release what signs of foul play were found at the home, the woman’s identity and the nature of the woman’s injuries.

Stansbury said investigators feel those details are still pertinent to the investigation.

The victim’s blue 2009 Mazda 3, bearing Louisiana license SLS132, also was missing from the home, Stansbury said.

Deputies are attempting to locate the woman’s vehicle. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (337) 232-TIPS.
