Update, 8:15 p.m.
The body of the elderly man whose boat overturned in Vermilion Bay was recovered around 4:45 p.m. Thursday, the Coast Guard has reported.
Officials say the body 76-year-old Ernest Hebert, of New Iberia, was recovered about a half mile from where the boat capsized just outside of Oaks Canal in Vermilion Bay, KATC-TV reported.
Coast Guard officials in New Orleans received a call shortly before 12:30 p.m. that two boaters were in the water after the vessel overturned.
One of the boaters was rescued and was able to relay information that Hebert was missing.
Hebert was not wearing a life jacket, Wildlife and Fisheries officers said. He was last seen around 9:30 a.m., the Coast Guard said.
Crews were continuing to search for the vessel, which is believed to be an aluminum flat bottom vessel.
The investigation into the incident is continuing, the Coast Guard said.
Hebert’s body has been transferred to the Vermilion Parish Coroner’s Office.
Authorities with the Vermilion and Iberia sheriffs’ offices assisted in the search, which was aided by a Coast Guard helicopter and boat crew.

Crews with Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries have recovered the body of the missing boater in Vermilion Bay.

Parish, state and federal authorities are searching Thursday afternoon for a 76-year-old man who is missing after his boat overturned in Vermilion Bay, according to the U.S. Coast Guard.
The boater is described as a white man with red hair and blue eyes, who wore a blue, button-up shirt, jeans, brown shoes and a brown hat, the Coast Guard said in a news release.
The missing boater’s name has not been released, but authorities said he was traveling with another boater who has since been recovered and did not report injuries.

Authorities with the state Wildlife and Fisheries Department and the Vermilion and Iberia Parish sheriffs’ offices were also participating in the search that’s aided by a Coast Guard helicopter and boat crew.
