A 40-year-old Florida man was killed early Friday morning when his vehicle broke down on Interstate 10 in Acadia Parish and he was struck by a van, State Police reported.
Robert Ogren of Pensacola was on Interstate 10 east of LA 91 about 1 a.m. when his vehicle became disabled in the inside lane, Master Trooper Brooks David said.
Ogren got out of his vehicle and was was walking around in the lane of travel when he was struck by a 2016 Chevrolet van driven by Juda Espree, 56, of Opelousas, David said.
Ogren was pronounced dead on scene by the Acadia Parish Coroner’s Office, David said. Espree and eight other occupants in the vehicle were properly restrained and not injured, he said.
Impairment is not believed to be a factor in this crash, David said, however toxicology samples were taken and will be submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.
