ABBEVILLE — Authorities on Friday announced an arrest in the 2014 killings of a man and woman found dead inside a burnt SUV.
Dereck Viator, 35, was arrested Thursday on two counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of Cody Fell and Abigail Clark, the Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Office reported. No bond is set.
“This has been a very active investigation since the onset as detectives continue to develop information and gather evidence in an effort to seek justice for the victims and their families,” Sheriff Mike Couvillon said in a news release.
Couvillon said additional arrests are forthcoming as the investigation continues but did not release further information in the case on Friday afternoon.
Viator was living in Youngsville at the time of the killings but has been held in the Vermilion Parish jail since July 2014 on counts of aggravated battery with a dangerous weapon, aggravated assault and aggravated arson, according to booking records.
Records show he was also been arrested on counts of aggravated assault and false imprisonment in November 2014 and a count of public bribery in April 2015.
Fell, 34, and Clark, 29, were found inside the burning vehicle on April 16, 2014, on Claude Road, south of Maurice.
