Two Lafayette-area convenience stores were held up by an armed robber Saturday, while a Lafayette fast-food restaurant was the target of an attempted armed robbery, all within less than an hour, according to police and sheriff’s reports.
The robber in the three holdups appeared to match the same description, though the three law enforcement agencies investigating the robberies have not said whether the robberies are related.
The first of the robberies occurred at about 10 p.m. in Lafayette, when the unidentified man attempted to rob a Burger King on Ambassador Caffery near Kaliste Saloom, authorities said.
About 20 minutes later, a man matching a similar description walked into a Food-N-Fun at 844 S. Morgan Ave., in Broussard, lifted up his shirt to reveal a semi-automatic handgun tucked into the waist band of his jeans, demanded money and began taking cash from the register, according to witnesses.
An eyewitness to the Broussard robbery told authorities the suspect left the store and headed toward South Morgan Avenue in a white truck.
At around 10:45 p.m. — just 20 minutes after the Broussard convenience store robbery — a man walked into another Food-n-Fun, this one located about eight miles south in Iberia Parish at 8119 W. U.S. 90. Witnesses say the armed robber took an undisclosed amount of money from the cash registers before leaving the area, authorities said.
Anyone with information on these incidents may contact the Lafayette Police Department at (337) 232-TIPS, the Broussard Police at (337) 837-6259 or the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office at (337) 369-3711.
Church Point crash leaves woman injured
A Church Point woman is in critical condition after being involved in a crash with an 18-wheeler in Broussard at around 10:22 p.m. Saturday, according to a KATC TV report.
Patricia Richard was attempting to make a “J-turn” to cross the westbound lanes of U.S. 90 onto North Girouard Road in a 2004 Lincoln Town Car when she was T-boned by the semitractor-trailer traveling west on U.S. 90, according to investigators.
Richard, 57, was found unresponsive at the scene of the wreck and was taken by ambulance to a hospital, authorities said.
Investigators said it was not clear whether alcohol played a role in the accident. Toxicology samples were taken at the scene of the accident, but the results are still pending.
