A 54-year-old Texas man was killed when his pickup truck crossed the median into oncoming traffic on Interstate 10, hitting an RV and an 18-wheeler near Westlake in Calcasieu Parish on Saturday evening.
Byron Keith Bob, of Houston, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Calcasieu Parish Coroner’s Office, State Police spokesman Sgt. James Anderson said.
Bob was driving eastbound in a 1999 GMC pickup truck when he crossed over into the westbound lanes and struck an Allegro recreational vehicle and an 18-wheeler, Anderson said.
Bob’s pickup and the RV were severely damaged but no one else was injured in the wreck, Anderson said. All three drivers were wearing seat belts.
State Police believe excessive speed and a rain-slick pavement contributed to the wreck, Anderson said. Troopers collected routine toxicology samples from the three drivers.
The crash remains under investigation, Anderson said.
