LAFAYETTE — Police issued an arrest warrant for a 24-year-old San Antonio man in an early morning shooting in Lafayette that left one man dead and a second man wounded, according to a news release.

Maurice Goodman is wanted on one count each of first-degree murder and attempted first-degree murder, police Cpl. Paul Mouton said in a news release.

Police did not identify the victims: a 32-year-old man, who died, and a 28-year-old man, who police say remains in stable condition at a hospital.

The shooting occurred at 12:30 a.m. in the 600 block of Magnolia Street following a disturbance involving six to eight men, Mouton said. The disturbance is believed to be part of an ongoing feud between two groups of men, Mouton said.

Goodman was last seen fleeing the scene in a mid-1990s silver or gold Buick Roadmaster with a Texas license plate, Mouton said.

Meanwhile, detectives arrested Jarvis Breaux, 27, of Lafayette, on one count of second-degree battery in connection with the disturbance, Mouton said.

Breaux, who was accompanying Goodman, injured a third man after striking the victim multiple times, Mouton said.

Breaux is being held in lieu of $5,000 bail at the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center, according to online jail records.

Anyone with information is asked to call Lafayette police or Crime Stoppers at (337) 232-8477.

This is the city’s sixth homicide this year, Mouton said.
