Prosecutors have charged a Eunice mother with manslaughter in the 2013 death of her 19-month-old daughter, Victoria Renee LeJeune.

Kimberly LeJeune, 33, of 179 Soileau Rd., will make an initial appearance in court on April 21, according to the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office. LeJeune had not been implicated in the child’s death until prosecutors filed charges this week.

LeJeune’s boyfriend at the time of the Victoria Renee’s death, Robert Miller III, was tried in July on a count of second-degree murder but was not convicted.

District Judge Alonzo Harris declared a mistrial after the jury heard a taped statement including allegations of Miller’s possible past criminal activity.

Miller now also faces a manslaughter charge, according to a bill of information. A trial date has not been set yet.

Experts testified during the trial that Victoria Renee died of severe brain bleed caused by repeated trauma to the body. Doctors testified that the toddler’s body was covered in bruises.
