A Baton Rouge driver struck and killed a woman Friday night who was standing in U.S. 190 in St. Landry Parish, State Police said.
Irene Kato, 48, was heading west in a 2003 Honda Odyssey about 8:45 p.m. when she hit and killed 50-year-old Elvina Stermer, Krotz Springs, Master Trooper Brooks David said in a news release.
The St. Landry Parish Coroner’s Office pronounced Stermer dead at the scene.
Kato and her two passengers were wearing seat belts and were not injured.
Toxicology samples were taken from Stermer for analysis. Kato submitted to a chemical test and was not impaired, David’s release says.
