The man shot to death early Monday morning in the Marigny Circle area of Lafayette Parish was 29-year-old Jordan Dean, according to the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office. Dean was a Lafayette rapper known by the stage name “Choky.”
The shooting occurred outside Dean’s apartment in the 200 block of Marigny Circle shortly after 3 a.m., according to the Sheriff’s Office. A woman who lives across the street, Devin Asiegbu, said she awoke to the sound of screaming outside. She said had heard a pair of gunshots two or three hours earlier. Several of Dean’s family were huddled over him on a walkway in front of the house, Asiegbu said, and she raced over to administer first aid.
“There was no pulse at all,” Asiegbu said. “I told them he was gone.”
Later Monday morning a splotch of what looked like blood was visible where Asiegbu said she had tried to help Dean.
Dean is originally from Carencro, according to his Facebook page.
