LAFAYETTE — Jeanerette police looked for Kendall George for days before learning the fugitive wanted in a shooting was at a Baton Rouge hospital’s burn unit, where his young son was being treated for burns to his feet, police said.

Lt. Gloria Lombard, assistant chief in Jeanerette, said George had been wanted by police since an April 26 incident involving shots fired at a vehicle.

“We’ve been looking for him that long,” Lombard said.

No one was injured in the shooting, she said.

She said George was wanted on four arrest warrants: Assault with a firearm, theft, simple battery and unauthorized use of a vehicle.

Authorities with the Baton Rouge City Constable’s Office arrested George, 25, on Monday at the burn unit of Baton Rouge General Hospital and transported him to Baton Rouge City Jail, according to the Constable’s Office.

Jeanerette police on Monday evening returned George to a jail in the small Iberia Parish city off U.S. 90, police said.

No bond had been set for George as of Tuesday afternoon, Lombard said.

Jeanerette police found George’s location after George’s work supervisor told police that George had taken off to bring his son to Baton Rouge for treatment, Lombard said.

The assistant chief said George’s son suffered burns to his feet, although she said she didn’t know the severity of the burns.

Lombard would not elaborate on circumstances that led to the boy’s injuries except to say they are still being investigated but were not the result of abuse.
