A bicyclist from New Iberia was killed Tuesday morning after he was hit by a car on La. 342 in Judice, said Louisiana State Police spokesman Master Trooper Brooks David.

Kerry Theriot, 33, was riding east on La. 342 near Brooklyn Street after 5:30 a.m. Tuesday when he was struck by a car driven by 37-year-old Nicholas Broussard of Duson, David said in a news release.

Theriot was not wearing a helmet, but did have the required red light on the back of his bike, David said. Troopers are investigating whether that light could be seen from the required distance.

Theriot was pronounced dead at the scene, David said.

Police said Broussard was not impaired during the crash based on a chemical breath test. A toxicology sample was taken from Theriot, but police do not believe that impairment was a factor in the wreck.
