ABBEVILLE — Police searching an electronic device belonging to a Vermilion Parish man suspected of rape found dozens of images of child pornography along with other sex-crime evidence that led to an Abbeville woman’s arrest, officials said.
James Harber, 32, of Abbeville, was booked last week on 58 counts of child pornography, and on one count of second-degree rape, according to a news release Wednesday by the Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Office.
KATC-TV reported that Harber is a seventh-grade teacher at J.H. Williams Middle School in Abbeville, and that he was first arrested on April 26 on counts of first-degree and second-degree rape of a teenage girl.
Deputies and Abbeville police on Saturday followed up on the evidence collected from Harber’s electronic device and arrested Angela Head, of Abbeville, on one count of indecent behavior with a juvenile and three counts of possessing child pornography, the Sheriff’s Office said.
A judge set Harber’s bail at $4.35 million. Head, 39, sits in jail in lieu of $300,000 bail.
An investigation continues, and the Sheriff’s Office said additional charges and arrests may follow.
