A fiery head-on collision Wednesday night between 18-wheelers on Interstate 10 killed both drivers and closed eastbound traffic near the Estherwood/Iota exit for several hours, State Police announced.

The crash occurred shortly before 6 p.m. when a westbound tractor-trailer truck crossed the median, colliding with eastbound truck, Trooper Brooks David said in a press release.

“After impact, both vehicles caught fire with one coming to rest across the eastbound lanes of I-10 and the other off the right side of the roadway,” David said.

The fire interfered with efforts to gather vehicle information and identify the drivers, he said.
