A Eunice woman was killed in a three-vehicle crash Friday night in St. Landry Parish after a vehicle that was stopped in the road caused a pile-up of three other vehicles, according to a Louisiana State Police press release.

Mary Chapman, 73, of Eunice, was pronounced dead on the scene of the crash from her injuries.

Police Spokesman Master Trooper Brooks David said the crash happened just before 6 p.m. on La. 10 near Ollie Street. After an unknown vehicle stopped in the westbound lane, a vehicle behind it driven by 74-year-old Stanley Nepveaux, of Crowley, had to slow down, David said.

A 2016 Freightliner box truck driven by 44-year-old Dewayne Turner, of Lafayette, who was driving behind Nepveaux, struck Nepveaux's vehicle and an eastbound vehicle driven by 67-year-old Mildred Philips, of Eunice, David said.

Turner was cited for following too close behind Nepveaux.

Chapman was a rear passenger in the eastbound vehicle, David said.

Troopers do not suspect impairment as a factor in the crash. They continue to investigate.
