ABBEVILLE — A 28-year-old Abbeville man was killed Monday in a single-vehicle crash north of here, Louisiana State Police said.

Jeremiah Broussard was killed in the crash about 2:30 p.m. on LA 696 at its intersection with US 167, Master Trooper Brooks David said in a news release.

Broussard was driving a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado eastbound on LA 696 when for unknown reasons he failed to stop at the intersection and traveled across the south and northbound lanes, David said. Broussard’s vehicle ran off of the roadway into a dry coulee, and crashed into an embankment.

Broussard, who was not wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead on scene by the Vermilion Parish Coroner’s Office, David said.

It is unknown if impairment was a factor in the crash, David said. Standard toxicology samples were obtained from Broussard and submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.
