An early Monday fire at a Moss Street auto sales business was intentionally set, causing heavy damage to the building and some of its merchandise, according to the Lafayette Fire Department.

Firefighters responded around 4:30 a.m. to Tops Auto Rental & Sales at 105 Moss Street and found the business, along with four vehicles at the lot, in flames, Fire Department spokesman Alton Trahan said in a news release. The fire was contained within 20 minutes, he said.

Investigators determined that at least two separate fires were started, Trahan said. At least one vehicle was set on fire, causing damage to another, and so was the business.

Anyone with information about the fire is asked to call Lafayette Crime Stoppers at (337) 232-TIPS or the Lafayette Fire Department at (337) 201-8716.
