ABBEVILLE — An Abbeville man is accused of fatally shooting a man from Maurice in an early Monday morning gunfire exchange on Pine Street that also left a 17-year-old girl injured, according to the Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Davian Layne Bessard, 21, is accused of a count of second-degree murder in the shooting death of 22-year-old Jeremiah Carltrell Walker, a news release stated.
Deputies responding to gunfire around 2:22 a.m. found Walker suffering from multiple gunshot wounds and a 17-year-old girl suffering from a gunshot wound in her upper arm, according to the release.
Investigators determined Bessard killed Walker, but the 17-year-old’s gunshot wounds came from Walker’s gun, according to Vermilion Parish Sheriff Mike Couvillon. The girl was treated and released from an area hospital.
Bessard remained in the Vermilion Parish jail on Monday afternoon in lieu of $500,000 bail.
