LAFAYETTE — The Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office arrested 54-year-old Mark Edmund Braun on Thursday on a count of molestation of a juvenile, making this the third time in about a year that Braun has faced allegations of inappropriate behavior involving juveniles.
A girl claims Braun molested her in 2000 when she was 9 years old, the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office said in a news release Friday.
The allegations arose while juvenile detectives were investigating Braun on an alleged aggravated rape involving a 5-year-old girl, the Sheriff’s Office said.
The aggravated rape allegations were raised Dec. 2 by a family member of the victim, the Sheriff’s Office reported.
The family member told detectives that the girl is believed to have been molested within the past several months. Braun was an acquaintance of the girl’s family, the Sheriff’s Office said.
Braun was arrested in the rape case Dec. 9, 2010. He posted a $500,000 bond and was subsequently released from the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center.
Court records show that Braun was also charged April 27 with another count of molestation involving a 5-year-old girl between April 1, 2010, and Oct. 30.
Braun has since posted a $75,000 bond and has been released from the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center, according to online jail records.
