LAFAYETTE — South Louisiana Community College student Warren Gachassin was sworn in as a student member of the Louisiana Community and Technical College System’s Board of Supervisors on Thursday, according to a news release.
For the next year, LCTCS students will be represented by Gachassin and Dennis Raether, a student of the Northshore Technical College Sullivan campus.
Gachassin is studying business at SLCC and is cross-enrolled at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.
A native of New Iberia, Gachassin also is a member of the Louisiana Student Financial Aid board.
He is the son of Warren and Sandy Gachassin.
Raether, a U.S. Army veteran and welder, returned to college to study drafting and design technology after the closure of Trinity Marine in Madisonville in late 2009.
Raether and his wife, Wendy, reside in Bogalusa. He is also the technical college representative of the Council of Student Body Presidents.
Both students also serve as presidents of their campus Student Government Associations.
