LAFAYETTE — After finishing as runners-up in last year’s Allstate Sugar Bowl LHSAA state golf championships, the Notre Dame girls golf team took a big step toward finishing at the top of the Division II tournament this year.

The Lady Pios fired a 166 team score to take a 15-stroke lead into Tuesday’s final round at the par-74 Les Vieux Chenes golf course in Youngsville.

Emily Lucas carded an 8-over 82 to lead Notre Dame and finish the first round in a tie with Country Day’s Madeline Gordon in fifth place in the individual standings.

Her teammate, Cassidy Goff, checked in right behind her with a 10-over 84 to finish the day in eighth place.

Catholic-New Iberia finished Monday’s action four strokes behind Loyola Prep for second place in the team standings with a 185.

Shrayon Thibodeaux led the Lady Panthers with an 86 to finish the first day in ninth place on the individual leaderboard. Teammate Alexis Breaux followed with a 99.

East Iberville’s Julia Johnson took a four-stroke lead over Archbishop Hannan’s Abbey Daniel for the individual lead Monday with a 1-under 73. Johnson won the girls Division II individual title by seven strokes last season.
