The No. 15 Louisiana-Lafayette softball team scored six first-inning runs, then held on to defeat North Florida 8-6 at the Louisiana Classic on Friday at Lamson Park.
The Ragin' Cajuns (9-2) actually gave up three runs in the top of the first on Tiffany Lower's three-run triple, but they struck back with twice as many in the bottom half. UL-Lafayette pounded out six hits in the inning, including an RBI single from Kara Gremillion and two-run doubles from both Caitlin Garcia and Beth Ashley.
From there, the Cajuns built on their lead with fourth-inning doubles from Alissa Dalton and Kynadi Tipler and a sac fly from Casidy Chaumont.
They led 8-4 in the seventh inning, when North Florida rallied for two runs. Lower's bases-loaded walk made it 8-6, but Kylee Joe Trahan earned her second save by striking out Enter with the bases loaded to end it.
Dalton finished 3 for 4, and Tipler was 2 for 4 with 2 RBIs. Trahan pitched the final three innings, allowing two runs on three hits with four walks and four strikeouts.
The Cajuns and Osprey meet again at 2 p.m. Saturday, and UL-Lafayette plays Maryland-Baltimore County at 7 p.m.
