LAFAYETTE – The Louisiana-Lafayette football program secured a commitment from East St. John defensive back Dontrell Allen just days after Allen de-committed from Mississippi State.

Allen, rated by 247Sports as a three-star recruit, originally committed to play for Mississippi State in June, but he tweeted on Sunday that he was about to de-commit.

The 6-foot defensive back and high school teammate of Cajuns freshman receiver Jarrod Jackson brings sprinter’s speed to the football field.

He ran a 6.9 second 60-meter dash at last year’s indoor state championships, and multiple reports cite him running a 10.33-second 100-meter dash and sub-4.4 second 40-yard dash.

Allen also held scholarship offers from TCU, ULM and Troy.

His commitment brings the Cajuns total number of commitments for the 2016 class to 17 players.
