When former New Orleans Saints defensive tackle Norman Hand died of heart disease in South Carolina in 2010, his son Trey was 7.

This year, Trey Hand starts high school at De La Salle High School in New Orleans, with the support of a scholarship provided by the Irving Morris Foundation and Son of a Saint. The "Where There's a Will, There's a Way" scholarship honors Will Smith, a former New Orleans Saints defensive end who was shot and killed in 2016.

The scholarship was announced and presented to Hand by Racquel Smith, Will Smith's widow, and Elizabeth Morris, founder of Irving Morris Foundation, during the Irving Morris Foundation's Hope gala at the Ritz Carlton New Orleans.

Son of a Saint works to enhance the lives of fatherless boys through mentorship, emotional support, development of life skills, exposure to constructive experiences and formation of lasting peer-to-peer relationships. It was created by Bivian "Sonny" Lee III, who was 3 when his father, former Saints defensive back Bivian Lee Jr., died after a heart attack in 1984.
