Laurel Lakes Estates is an upscale development with acreage-sized lots and luxury homes behind the Riverbend Subdivision off Brightside Lane. Sparkling lakes with splashing fountains are scattered about the gated, one-street development. The 5,084-square-foot home at 2118 Laurel Lakes Ave. is a tall Mediterranean offering available now.
Laurel Lakes is not a new development, but it has to be one of the best-kept residential real estate secrets in Baton Rouge. It’s prime real estate not far from downtown and close to everything in south Baton Rouge.
Turkish marble tile floors most of the home’s first level, which has an open layout perfect for entertaining. The foyer soars to 20-plus feet, with the formal dining room to its right and a home office to the left. Overhead, a magnificent three-tiered Swarovski crystal chandelier illuminates the entry. It’s one of three of Swarovskis in the home; the second is in the formal dining room and the third is upstairs.
Arched walls and big windows with sunset transoms are features near the home’s entry, along with a custom wood and iron staircase that winds up to the second floor. The home wastes no space at all, with art coves in strategic locations that might otherwise be unused space. Interior doors are eight feet on 12-foot ceilings.
From the formal dining room, a butler’s pantry leads past a small computer room and into the kitchen, a gourmet’s delight with upscale appliances. The granite butler’s pantry has glass-front maple cabinets, a wine refrigerator and a sink with mother-of-pearl backsplashes. Mother-of-pearl is used in several areas of the home, mostly as accents to the marble flooring.
The kitchen features 3cm Galaxie granite on the counters and center island. Electrolux appliances include a 5-burner gas cook top, two wall ovens, a microwave and a warming drawer. There’s also a new stainless LG refrigerator. The cabinetry is maple and it’s all custom.
The keeping room and breakfast room, both just off the kitchen, offer views of the back porch and pool courtyard. The keeping room has a maple entertainment center while the breakfast room has four windows to the back. Behind the keeping room is the home laundry and a guest suite with its own full bath.
The living room is framed by big arching walls and faux-finished columns. Floored in more marble tile, the living room has a fireplace with a faux-finished mantle that is flanked by lighted built-in maple cabinetry.
The master suite is in the home’s west wing, a warm and comfortable retreat from the cares of life. With a bonus room just outside its entry, the master bedroom is floored in lustrous Brazilian cherry wood planks. Two master bedroom windows view the back yard.
The master bath is opulent, with dual granite vanities and a 6-foot air bubbler tub from Jacuzzi. The big walk-in shower has more mother-of-pearl accents and multiple water sources. Two big master closets have lots of built-ins that include dressers, shoe racks and other cubbies.
An exit to the home’s three-car garage is located behind the kitchen. Just inside this entry is a convenient mud room/drop-off area with built in cubbies and hanging space for book sacks and umbrellas.
Upstairs, there are three large bedrooms, each with its own full bath. Another elegant Swarovski crystal chandelier is at the landing, and a home theater is around the corner. A princess balcony overlooks the foyer.
Finally, a wide porch and an outdoor kitchen in back overlook the pool and wide open spaces of the nearly 3-acre lot.
