The Baton Rouge Police Department has released the names of the two officers involved in the shooting death of a 32-year-old man who they said tried to run them over Sunday.

Joshua Gillich, 28 and Michael Davila, 43 are the two officers involved in the shooting, Police spokesman Cpl. Don Coppola said Monday morning.

Both officers remain on paid administrative leave as the investigation into the shooting continues.

Gillich has been employed with the department for four years.

Davila has been employed with the department since February and is a recent graduate of the police department’s 79th Basic Training Academy.

Gillich and Davila are accused of shooting and killing Tyris Wilkerson, 2637 Laurel St., Sunday at 12:20 a.m.

Police attempted to stop Wilkerson’s 1997 Mercury Mountaineer in the 1400 block of Dalrymple Drive for a traffic violation, police have said.

Wilkerson refused to stop and was pursued by police through several neighborhoods, police have said.

Gillich and Davila were trying to help other officers stop Wilkerson at South Eugene and Louisiana when Wilkerson sped straight at them.

One of the officers fired multiple shots into the front windshield striking Wilkerson in the head. Wilkerson died at the scene.
