Methanex Corp. has chosen Jacobs Engineering to do the engineering, procurement and construction services work on its $550 million methanol production facility in Geismar.

Jacobs’ Baton Rouge office was already under contract for site-specific engineering and construction management for the project. The plant is expected to begin operating during the second half of 2014.

The value of the contract was not disclosed.

Jacobs, based in Pasadena, Calif., is one of the world’s largest providers of technical, professional, and construction services.

Methanex is moving the plant to Geismar, now idle, from Chile to take advantage of low natural gas prices in the United States.
