The tall Colonial style home that’s been standing guard over the 8000 block of Old Hammond Highway for the past 53 years shows that style and quality always stand the test of time. Southern Living magazine once did a story on this home, and the magazine should think about returning for a follow-up.

The gardens have private seating areas and brick trails leading the length of the home, with a greenhouse at one end and a gazebo through iron gates at the other. A tall brick privacy wall is the outside perimeter and a serpentine brick wall stands inside. A covered brick porch with an outdoor kitchen overlooks it all.

The kitchen is a gourmet cook’s delight with a long marble island, floor-to-ceiling cherry cabinetry, two big SubZeros, double wall ovens, a microwave and a beautiful copper hood topping a Wolf 6-burner commercial cook top with a griddle and pot-filler. The formal breakfast room has a nice 8-light chandelier and views of the front yard.

Through a cased entry is the family room, which has a beautiful, deeply coffered ceiling and lots of original windows, including a big bay window at the end. The family room also has an exit to a private side courtyard.

The master suite has more natural light filtering through tall windows. Double doors lead to the travertine master bath, which has separate vanities and a tall walk-in shower. The focal point, however, is the long whirlpool tub with an oversized surround below bay windows viewing the brick rear courtyard.

Upstairs is the guest suite with a full bath, a home office and more bedrooms with baths. There is also a crafts room at one end of the second floor.
