Baton Rouge police arrested a husband and wife early Saturday in a home invasion and shooting late Thursday on Jamestown Avenue.

Police booked John Lopez, 38, 12247 Dove Hollow Drive, Denham Springs, into Parish Prison on one counts of attempted second-degree murder and home invasion. His wife, Chelsea Clare Lopez, 31, of the same address, was booked on one count each of principal to second-degree murder and principal to home invasion.

Chelsea Lopez drove her husband to the victim’s home in the 4900 block of Jamestown Avenue so she could retrieve some medication from the victim’s home, the affidavit of probable cause for Chelsea Lopez’s arrest says. The victim ended his relationship with Chelsea Lopez after John Lopez learned about it.

When the victim told her to leave his house, John Lopez allegedly exited the vehicle, kicked the door in and walked inside armed with a handgun, the affidavit says.

The victim tried to defend himself with a baseball bat, but was shot multiple times, the affidavit says. John Lopez then ran back to the waiting vehicle and fled the home with his wife.

During questioning, Chelsea Lopez admitted to driving her husband to the home and said she heard the fight and gunshots, the affidavit says.

The victim is expected to survive, police said Friday.
