Football expenses topic for LSU retirees
Mark Ewing, LSU senior associate athletic director, spoke to the LSU Faculty and Staff Retirees Club on March 11 about the expenses of football travel.
Staff and player food includes pizza, steak, chicken and snacks, plus transportation and lodging. Sending the full band alone costs up to $200,000. At home, athletics pays for trash pickup. Yet, it is self-sustaining, without student fees or LSU support, and donates millions to the main campus, he said.
The club’s business meeting included reports from President Shirley Mundt, Vice President Terril Faul, Treasurer Eddie Bosworth, field trip organizer Lorry Trotter, legislative reporter Jerald Juneau and telephone committee member Barbara Franke. Mary McGehee, Joy Bagur and Donna Day provided refreshments.
‘Reflections’ hears landscape architect
Landscape architect Pete Newton spoke to the Burden Horticulture Society’s “Reflections in the Garden” program on March 4.
Newton said landscape or space should be beautiful and functional. A good design will be welcoming, comforting, encourage outdoor living and reflect style and stage of life. The landscape should be well-designed, installed and maintained.
