Recently a book titled “Cookies & Beer” by Jonathan Bender appeared on my desk with this message: “Dear milk, it’s over.”
Though not a breakup I’m ready for, the book sparked my interest.
With a guide to beer glasses, information for bakers new to beer and chapters like “Breakfast,” “Chocolate,” “Savory,” and even some info on beer milkshakes, it had me at chocolate.
Most of the recipes suggest what beer pairs best with the cookie, but I tried one of the recipes that has beer as an ingredient.
Called Chocolate Oatmeal Ale Cookies with Caramel Icing by Sofia Varanka Hudson from Swoon in Kansas City, Missouri, the cookie was chewy with a nice depth of flavor. Many who tasted it called it a spice cookie. Quite tasty. Cheers!
