Each week The Advocate asks a different “quiz taker” for his or her current favorites in pop culture.

QUIZ TAKER: Barbara Freiberg, 62, president of the East Baton Rouge Parish School Board.

WHAT I’M READING: “I like to stay abreast of educational issues so Education Weekly is the first thing that comes to mind.”

WHAT I’M WATCHING: “I never have time to go to the movies. At home, I tend to watch news programs like ‘20/20’ and ‘Dateline.’”

WHAT I’M LISTENING TO: “When I’m in my car, I put on XM Radio and listen to the ’60s and ’70s, as well as to the golf channel. I like my XM Radio a lot.”

WHERE I’M SURFING (ON THE INTERNET): “Of course, I do Facebook, but I also do the Department of Education and PGA websites. I love to play golf; it’s my favorite pastime. I go there (PGA website) to get scores and information.”

The 2011-2012 school year got under way for East Baton Rouge Parish last week. What excites you most about the upcoming year?

“I’m excited about so many things that all wrapped up together offer so much potential. We’re going to get new leadership, and hopefully we can hire someone to lead us in the right direction. We have a strategic plan that’s in place to make sure we’re going in the right direction for our schools. There are lots of things happening right now.”
