The fourth annual Art in April with Champagne is set for 6 p.m.-10 p.m. Friday, April 19, in downtown Hammond.

The event is a celebration of culture and the arts, featuring more than two dozen regional artists’ exhibits throughout the downtown strolling area, live music and a creative, champagne cocktail challenge. Artwork will be by artists from across southeast Louisiana with displays in retail shops, galleries, and offices throughout downtown.

Downtown Hammond has been designated as a Louisiana Cultural District, allowing artists to sell their work in the area without charging state and local taxes. This incentive is hoped to entice more artists and art enthusiasts to come to the city.

Downtown merchants participating in the champagne cocktail challenge will provide a creative cocktail to guests who will be able to rate champagne cocktails while viewing art exhibits. Prizes will be awarded to guests who vote for their favorite cocktail, and the winning business will be recognized for the evening’s best cocktail.

The tasting is $20 for guests 21 and older with a valid ID, which includes a souvenir champagne tasting flute.
