• BEAUREGARD WATERMELON FESTIVAL: Beauregard Parish Fairgrounds, DeRidder. Live entertainment, food, pageants, children’s activities and watermelons are the hallmarks of this west Louisiana festival.
  • LE FESTIVAL DE LA VIANDE BOUCANÉE DE LA LOUISIANE: Ville Platte. This festival showcases local smoked meats, including sausage, tasso, pounce bourée, deer, pig, rabbit and fish. Music runs all day both days, and arts and crafts booths and beauty pageants are slated.

  • NOLA CARIBBEAN FESTIVAL: 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., Roux Carre, 2000 O.C. Haley Blvd., New Orleans. Multicultural event showcases cuisine, music and culture. $15.


  • ST. TAMMANY CRAB FESTIVAL: Heritage Park, 1701 Bayou Lane, Slidell. Crab and the cuisine that features it are the showcases of this festival that includes other foods, music, children’s activities and a car show.


  • ESSENCE FESTIVAL: Various locations in New Orleans. Headline recording artists, empowerment workshops and a host of seminars are just part of the national celebration sponsored by Essence magazine. Prices vary by event.
