Thanks to a move a few doors down from its original location, there's now more room for guests and good eats at a locally owned taqueria.
Co-owners Ben Landry and Jeremy McKnight said Mr. Taco's move and expansion is complete. The restaurant opened for business in the new space last week.
Mr. Taco moved two doors down from its original location to 14111 Airline Highway, suites 125 and 126. Those spaces used to house a gun shop and part of the old Fuji restaurant that is no longer in business. Now, Mr. Taco has double the space and is next door to Landry and McKnight's other business, Ice House Bar & Grill.
McKnight said the move was made "to offer a larger space for our guests," and to better serve patrons and the two businesses.
Inside, Mr. Taco has new features like booth seating and a custom concrete bar. The feel is entirely different than before, McKnight said, mentioning that increase in space.
The menu expanded as well with items such as fajitas, ceviche, and desserts like tres leches and flan. Family style to-go dinner options are also available with a selection of tacos, enchiladas, tamales, rice and beans for $29.99.
Ice House Bar & Grill also expanded its menu to feature options such as fried chicken wings, boudin balls, and cheese fries.
The renovation took about six months, McKnight said, mentioning a grand opening party will come in December once the bar has gone through permitting. At the bar, customers can expect margaritas, beer, and rum punches.
Mr. Taco is open 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday-Saturday. Ice House Bar & Grill is open 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. Monday-Saturday, and 11 a.m. to midnight Sunday.
