Each week The Advocate asks a different “quiz taker” for his or her current favorites in pop culture.

QUIZ TAKER: Mary Leah Coco, 32, assistant director, Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development at the Transportation Training and Education Center, national spokeswoman for the American Heart Association Go Red for Women campaign

WHAT I’M LISTENING TO: “Since my sweet little girl will soon be 4, it’s a normal thing for us to listen to the Laurie Berkner Band and The Imagination Movers when we are in the car. I mostly listen to KLove 92.7 FM when I’m flying solo in the car along with my current two favorite CDs: ‘Introducing The City Harmonic’ by The City Harmonic and ‘Let the Woman’ by Andy Davis.”

WHAT I’M READING: “I recently finished reading ‘Gone Girl’ by Gillian Flynn, which was an excellent read. Before that, I hopped on the ‘Hunger Games’ trilogy wagon. I couldn’t put them down! I am always checking The Advocate online for local news and http://www.FoxNews.com for national news. I love words, so anything I can get my hands on to read I do. I also have a love for knowledge because I truly believe that knowledge is power, so if I don’t know the answer to something I will be the first to investigoogle it.”

WHAT I’M WATCHING: “My favorite shows on TV are ‘Modern Family,’ ‘Glee,’ ‘The Glee Project,’ ‘Survivor’ and ‘Ellen’ (I am Ellen’s self-proclaimed biggest fan!). My favorite all-time movie is ‘Elf.’ Christmas and Will Ferrell together equal magic! I will watch pretty much any movie that is in the comedy genre, but most movie nights at my house are spent watching ‘Sleeping Beauty,’ ‘Cinderella’ and ‘The Incredibles.’ Watching those Disney movies with my sweet girl is magical because I get to re-live the magic of those story lines through her eyes.”

WHERE I’M SURFING (ON THE INTERNET): “I definitely check out Facebook every day. I also love to read a blog by The Bloggess at http://www.thebloggess.com. She is one funny lady. I go to Ellen’s website daily, too. She has a great list of silly jokes.”

WHAT’S YOUR GUILTY PLEASURE? “Since I am on a pretty strict heart-healthy diet, I don’t get to indulge in my guilty pleasures very often. However, my two favorite guilty pleasures when it comes to food are Kraft mac ’n’ cheese (the good ole blue box) and Izzo’s nachos.”

What do you hope to accomplish with the Go Red for Women campaign?

“What most people don’t know about heart disease is that it is the No. 1 killer of women. I was 30 when I was diagnosed, and almost two years later my life is certainly forever changed. The only reason I went to a cardiologist was because of my family history of heart disease. After the fact, I recognized that I did have symptoms, but I had an excuse for every symptom.

“The Go Red for Women campaign is a movement to end heart disease in women while advocating for more research and swifter action for women’s heart health. Through this opportunity, I hope to change the face of heart disease. Each morning I wake up, I am grateful my heart is still beating and for this amazing opportunity.”
