Mid City Craft Wine and Brew is a new liquor shop that's set to open in May on Jefferson Highway near Government Street.

A new wine and craft beer shop is set to open next month near the intersection of Jefferson Highway and Government Street.

Mid City Craft Wine and Brew will open in May at 711 Jefferson Highway, next door to Brew Ha-Ha! and Mo's Art Supply in the Goodwood Village shopping center.

Owned by Gabe Daigle and his brother, Jacob, Mid City Craft will sell beers, wines and a small selection of liquor. The shop will focus heavily on offering local and regional craft beers, family-owned wines and a few boutique selections.

Gabe Daigle is the former owner of Red Star Bar in downtown Baton Rouge. Most recently, he worked as the wine director at Alexander's Highland Market. Opening a wine store had been on the brothers' minds for some time. When the Jefferson Highway space became available, that idea became a reality.

"We're excited about the location and being in this area," Gabe Daigle said. "We wanted to be a part of the development that's going on here."

Daigle added that the store will have an open floor plan and hangout vibe. After doors open, patrons can expect tasting events as well as craft beer seminars.

"We'll have winemakers and brewers here," Daigle said. "We want to go above and beyond with tastings. We also want to get to know customers around here and be consistent in what we offer."
