  • THIRD STREET SONGWRITERS FESTIVAL: Various venues in downtown Baton Rouge. Experience live music on Third Street from some of the area’s most talented singer-songwriters.
  • ACADIANA DRAGON BOAT FESTIVAL: 8 a.m., Bouligny Plaza, 102 W. Main St., New Iberia. Experience authentic dragon boats racing down Bayou Teche. Boats are powered to the finish line by 20 paddlers while one drummer keeps the beat. Burger cookoff, vendors, live music and family-friendly activities.


  • ANGOLA RODEO: Louisiana State Penitentiary at Angola, 10000 Tunica Trace, Tunica. Rodeo events, food, music and inmate hobby and craft items for sale are the hallmarks of this spring version of the world-famous prison rodeo. $15 admission.
  • COVINGTON HERITAGE ANTIQUE FESTIVAL: Covington Trailhead. This event showcases vintage-inspired crafts and DIY products and features a live auction. 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on both days.
  • GREAT LOUISIANA BIRDFEST: Northlake Nature Center, 23135 U.S. 190 East, Mandeville. Annual event to coincide with migration patterns of birds, including trips, food and workshops. Prices vary per event.
  • LE FEU ET L’EAU FESTIVAL: NUNU Arts and Culture Collective, 1510 Bayou Courtableau Highway, Arnaudville. Arts event with artists, performers, cultural workers.
  • LOUISIANA HOT SAUCE FESTIVAL AND EXPO: Blackham Coliseum, 2330 Johnston St., Lafayette. A celebration of hot sauce and spicy food. Hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.
  • MELROSE ARTS AND CRAFTS FESTIVAL: Melrose Plantation, 3533 La. 119, Melrose. Fine arts and crafts held on the grounds of the historic home, with food vendors and home tours, 18 miles south of Natchitoches. $5.
  • NEW ORLEANS POETRY FESTIVAL: Arts Estuary, 1024 Elysian Fields Ave., and other locations, New Orleans. First event, with readings, poetry, workshops, panels and performances.


  • LOUISIANA EARTH DAY: Downtown Baton Rouge. Enjoy a day filled with exhibits, hands-on activities and music from Geno Delafose and Pine Leaf Boys from noon to 6 p.m.


  • FESTIVAL INTERNATIONAL DE LOUISIANE: Downtown Lafayette, with shuttles from Cajun Field, 2351 W. Congress St. Expansive festival with music, food, a fine arts market, a world market, workshops, theater and other performing arts.
