JACKSON NAMED MISS PAUL QUINN COLLEGE: T’Edra ZaChelle Jackson, a Scotlandville Magnet High School graduate and a sophomore at Paul Quinn College in Dallas, was crowned Miss Paul Quinn 2012-13 on Oct. 25. She majors in business administration, and is president of the Quinnite Ambassadors and vice president of the Association of Fundraising Professionals. She is the daughter of Terence and Yolanda Williams and Maurice and Charlotte Ringo.

SERVICE LEARNING AWARDS: LSU’s Center for Community Engagement, Learning, and Leadership has awarded 10 LSU faculty, students and community partners with the second annual set of CCELL “Happy” Awards for excellence in service-learning.

The “Happy” was initiated to commemorate former CCELL Director Jan Shoemaker’s 10 years of distinguished service, commitment to education and service for the common good.

The 2012 Happy Award recipients are: Connections for Life, community partner; Alma Dawson, Russell B. Long professor, library & information sciences; Highland Elementary School, community partner; Betsy Irvine, executive director, Louisiana Delta Service Corps; Lisa Johnson, assistant professor, kinesiology; Sandy Joslyn, graduate student, public administration and American Red Cross volunteer; Younghee Lim, associate professor, social work; Mary Hannah Prevot, senior in art; John Scalzo, instructor, electrical engineering and computer science; and Yejun Wu, assistant professor, library & information sciences. ESHLEMAN PAPER RECEIVES AWARD: Dan Eshleman, Ph.D. student in the LSU Department of Accounting, received the best doctoral student paper award at the American Accounting Association’s Midwest Regional Conference, held in St. Louis in October. Eighty people attended the conference and 32 research papers were presented.

Eshleman is a native of Kernersville, N.C.

The paper, “Overreaction to Supply Chain Information Transfers,” examines whether investors are able to efficiently use financial information about customer firms to value their suppliers. The results of the study suggest that investors tend to overweigh customer news when pricing supplier firm stocks.

The paper is co-authored with LSU Ourso Distinguished Chair in Accounting Agnes Cheng.


DEVAULL COMPLETES BASIC: Air Force Airman Lonterio T. DeVaull graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. DeVaull earned distinction as an honor graduate. He is the grandson of Alma Lawson, of Baton Rouge, and is a 2010 graduate of Baton Rouge High School.

BRENT COMPLETES BASIC: Navy Seaman Recruit Tyler D. Brent, son of Angela Brent, of Denham Springs, and Jesse D. Brent, of Baker, recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill. Brent is a 2012 graduate of Baker High School.
