The East Baton Rouge Parish Library system is celebrating its One Book One Community selection with a free launch party at 6 p.m. Feb. 24 at the Main Library.

This year’s book is Margot Lee Shetterly’s “Hidden Figures,” about the black women mathematicians who helped the United States win the space race.

At the library, 7711 Goodwood Blvd., the free, family-friendly launch party will include food, music, games, prizes, stargazing and a cake walk. Special guests include Dr. Tamiara Wade, a former learning expert at NASA Stennis Space Center, and Alyssa Carson, a 16-year-old aspiring astronaut. Alyssa has attended Space Camp seven times, Space Academy three times, Robotics Academy once and is the youngest graduate of the Advanced Space Academy. Learn more about Carson at nasablueberry.com.

Forum 35 also will be at the party to welcome to the NASA STEM Team.

Lots of other free events, programs, movie nights, book talks, crafts and more related to the book, and One Book One Community will be scheduled throughout the community all spring long. A schedule and related information is available at ReadOneBook.org. For more information about the launch party, call (225) 231-3750.
