A nine foot tall strawberry has been unveiled in Ponchatoula in advance of this weekend's annual festival. Designed by sculptor and movie prop builder Valek Sykes, the berry is constructed from 25 gallons of fiberglass resin and adorned with 120 seeds. 

The threat of severe weather has parked the Ponchatoula Strawberry Festival's annual parade Saturday.

Ponchatoula Strawberry Festival Inc announced the cancellation Friday evening via Facebook. The parade was scheduled from 9:30 to 11 a.m. The Facebook post invites festival-goers to attend the festival "when conditions improve."

Much of South Louisiana, including New Orleans and Baton Rouge, are at risk of severe thunderstorms beginning early Saturday, with the National Weather Service reporting between 2 to 4 inches of rain. More than 6 inches of rain are predicted for some areas.
