The Red Stick Farmers Market is continuing to take donations for the family which operates Smith Creamery, a longtime vendor at the local market.

The creamery in Mount Hermon in Washington Parish was destroyed last week from an apparent propane gas explosion. No one was injured in the 1:30 a.m. blast.

Copper Alvarez, executive director of the Big River Economic and Agricultural Development Alliance which operates the farmers markets, said customers wanting to help out can go to the website and select “gift.”

“BREADA has an emergency fund, and we have already given them funds to cover immediate cash flow,” Alvarez said.

The organization is taking donations so the Smith family can “meet immediate needs as they determine how or if they can rebuild through disaster-recovery planning.”

Smith Creamery is operated by Warren and Sandra Smith and their children, Travis Smith and Michelle Hickman.
