This Saturday is Melon Mania at the Red Stick Farmers Market. Chef Jaime Hernandez, of Juban’s, will join chef Celeste Gill for the cooking demonstration, which will feature cool melon recipes to beat the summer heat.

The Thursday Market will be at Pennington Biomedical Research Center, 6400 Perkins Road. Shoppers should enter off Kenilworth Boulevard, at Irene Drive. The Tuesday Market on Goodwood Boulevard is also open weekly.

Louisiana Purchase, credit and debit cards are accepted at both locations of the Red Stick Farmers Market.

Covington Market

The Covington Market is open from 8 a.m. to noon each Saturday on the side lawn of City Hall, 609 N. Columbia St., and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. each Wednesday at the Covington Trailhead, 419 N. New Hampshire.

In this week’s cooking demonstration, Sala Thai staff will prepare and serve specialities from its menu. Music will be provided by Sharon Sech.

Fresh produce will include shelled peas, eggplant, squash, peppers, potatoes, cucumbers, onions, greens, beets, broccoli and cauliflower and radishes.

Seafood, meats, dairy products, eggs, honey, herbs and prepared foods will also be available.
