Serves 6 to 8.
1 (18.25-oz.) box spice cake
1-1/3 cup water
1/3 cup vegetable oil
2 Granny Smith apples, cut into fine cubes
1/2 cup walnuts or pecans, broken into pieces
1. Follow directions on package for cake, using cake mix, eggs, water and vegetable oil. Mix and fold in apples and nuts.
2. Pour mixture into lightly greased slow cooker. Cook on High for 2-1/2 to 3 hours.
3. Test cake for doneness with toothpick. When toothpick comes out clean, loosen cake around edges and place cake plate over top, inverting to get cake onto plate or scoop out cake into small dishes or wide-rimmed glasses.
4. Top with sprinkling of powdered sugar, scoop of ice cream or whipped topping.
