Makes about 45 (2-inch) pieces. Recipe is provided by Mary Guzzardo.

1 cup shortening

11/4 cups sugar

4 eggs

1 tbl. almond extract or 2 tbls. vanilla extract

3 tsps. baking powder

Pinch of salt

5 cups flour

1. Cream together shortening, sugar, eggs and extracts. Blend baking powder, salt and flour into mixture.

2. Work dough well until smooth. Break off pieces and roll into a rope. Cut rope into 2-inch pieces and press into rectangular shape.

3. Place on a greased cookie sheet and bake in a preheated 350-degree oven for about 15-20 minutes. Cool. Ice or leave plain.
