The first Cook-off for the Coast takes place Saturday at Docville Farm, 5124 E. St. Bernard Highway in Violet.

The event is described as "a family-friendly tailgate featuring amateur cook teams competing in a wild hog cook-off, live streaming of the LSU vs. Tennessee game and cooking demonstrations by local celebrity chefs," according to a news release.

The cook-off's goal is promote coastal restoration efforts through these amateur cooks, professional chefs and local organizations.

Doors open at 11 a.m. and the event runs through 4 p.m. 

The St. Bernard Parish Coastal Division is hosting the gathering, which is being co-sponsored by the Meraux Foundation; Restore the Mississippi River Delta; Culinaria Center for Food Law, Policy and Culture; Propeller; Water Works; and Louisiana Sea Grant.

Tickets are $8 online at or $10 at the door.
