Queen Romany LXVIII Carlie Marjorie Dobson and King Romany LXVIII Yakoot Zia Taj reigned over the krewe's 68th ball on Feb. 4 at the Raising Cane’s River Center. The Krewe of Romany is the oldest ladies’ Mardi Gras krewe in Baton Rouge. 

Master of ceremonies Andre Chapoy and President Terrie Cavalier welcomed guests and introduced the returning royalty and debutantes. The presentation of colors was by the Louisiana Women Veterans, and the national anthem was sung by members of the Baton Rouge Chorus of Sweet Adelines.

The queen is the daughter of Denise and Clint Dobson. The king is the husband of krewe member Tonia Taj.

Pages to the queen were Scotlyn Ashby Varnado, daughter of Amy and Darryl Varnado; Ainsley Elizabeth Rettew, daughter of Courtney and Michael Rettew; and Vanessa Caroline Anders, daughter of Melissa Mayeux and Josh Anders. Page for the king was Colin Vaughn, son of Addrienne and Matthew Vaughn.

Ball Captain Mary Kay Graves Sonnier, “The Mistress of Magic,” hosted the tableau, “Romany Has Magic To Do.” Displays of magic flashed across the stage on huge LED screens, changing to match the maids and their escorts.

Maid Ashley Michelle Mayer represented “Mystical Dragons.” She is the daughter of Michelle Forte and Francis Mayer II, who escorted her.

Maid Ainsley Claire Sonnier represented “Tarot.” She is the daughter of Suzy and Chris Sonnier and the granddaughter of 2017 ball Captain Kay Sonnier. She was escorted by her father and her guardian angel, Jacob Sonnier.

Maid Kennedy Shaye Achord represented “Genie.” She is the daughter of Dr. Shonda and John Achord. She was escorted by her father.

"Fortune Teller” was portrayed by Maid Cameron Francis Burtner, who is the daughter of krewe member Margaret Burtner. She was escorted by her uncle, Gregory Alan Young.

Maid Jessica Grace Wilhelm represented “Potions.” She is the daughter of Janelle Wilhelm and John Wilhelm, who escorted her. She is the granddaughter of krewe member Deborah Simmons Harris.

In the tableau, krewe members entertained with dance numbers with the magic theme. The krewe choreographer and longtime member Jerisse Bolton Grantham also designed the krewe costumes.

Attendants were Michal J. Anding, William Day, Bobby Mitchell, Jay Rattelle and John Williams.
