Thanksgiving dinner might be one of the most anticipated meals of the year. But if it’s your turn to prepare the dinner, it may leave you anxious about just what to cook.  Not to fear, my trim and terrific Thanksgiving recipes have been our favorites for years, and I know they will be for your family, too.

When we gather for the holidays, the meal is not complete without our traditional favorite side dishes and dessert I'm sharing with you today. I guarantee they will make your season festive, and your bellies full.

Key seasonal ingredients play a big role in one of our favorites, Yam Cornbread Stuffing. Can’t decide between cornbread dressing or sweet potato casserole? This dish has them both.

Naturally sweet yams and cornbread team up for a mouthwatering savory stuffing that you will never believe is diabetic-friendly, which is really the healthiest way to eat. To make the most of your time, prepare the cornbread and toast the pecans a day ahead.

Stuffed Artichoke Casserole may not be your traditional side dish, but put this one on your menu and you will get requests every year. It gives you gourmet flavor without the hassle of stuffing artichokes.

The holidays just aren’t complete without pecan pie, and my Pecan Pie with Honey Crunch Topping is honestly one of my very favorite desserts. I have been known to, forkful by forkful, eat half of a pie in one sitting. Dig in without the guilt; pecans are the highest in antioxidants nuts.

Even though these recipes carry a healthy tag, I promise your family won’t be able to tell because there’s no sacrifice in flavor. You don’t have to change what you make, just change how you make it. I admit I overeat every holiday. However, with this selection of trim and terrific recipes, the only thing stuffed at your home will be the turkey.

Terrific Tips:

  • Make the Yam Cornbread Stuffing ahead and freeze it to keep work on the holiday to a minimum. It also can be refrigerated for up to three days, then baked when you're ready to serve it.
  • Already prepared cornbread works just as well as homemade.
  • Sweet potatoes, which are loaded with fiber, vitamins and minerals, pack this dish with nutrition.
  • Stuffed Artichoke Casserole can also be prepared ahead of time, transferred to a baking dish and heated in the oven when ready to serve. For a vegetarian version, substitute vegetable broth.
  • No time to make a pie? Purchase one then add the Honey Crunch Topping. It will look and taste homemade.
  • For a chocolate variation of the pie, add ½ to 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips to the pie filling before baking.
