A St. Jude fundraiser

WHAT: 5th annual Run for the Children.

LAGNIAPPE: All proceed benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

McMains Run, Walk & Roll

Lace up those running shoes and join the fun.

WHAT: McMains Children’s Developmental Center’s third annual Run, Walk & Roll.

WHEN: 8 a.m. Saturday, June 1.

WHERE: Downtown Baton Rouge.


LAGNIAPPE: Those in wheelchairs are urged to join the fun. The proceeds will go to support the therapy services at the center. Food and festivities will be in the North Boulevard Town Square.

Kids triathlon

Oh, this is going to be fun!

WHAT: BREC Rocketkidz Rookies Triathlon.

WHEN: 7:30 a.m. Saturday, June 8.

WHERE: BREC Liberty Lagoon Water Park, 111 Lobdell Ave.


LAGNIAPPE: Open to youngsters ages 3-10. Swim down the lazy river at Liberty Lagoon, bike on the sidewalks around the park and run in the grassy area of the park. There’s even divisions for nonswimmers.

Boot camp

This outdoor/indoor interval training program is for girls ages 13-17.

WHAT: Girls Boot Camp, conducted by Woman’s Center for Wellness.

WHEN: 2 sessions available – 6-7 p.m. Mondays & Wednesdays, June 10 through July3; and 9:30-10:30 a.m. Tuesdays & Thursdays, June 11 through July 9.

COST: $80


LAGNIAPPE: Trainers will teach the benefits of conditioning, different types of exercise and fitness in a fun, non-competitive and non-intimidating environment.

Daddy, Daughter & Son

Here’s a first for Baton Rouge, and it probably won’t be the last.

WHAT: The Inaugural Daddy, Daughter & Son relay.

WHEN: 8:30 a.m. Saturday, June 15.

WHERE: Downtown Baton Rouge.


LAGNIAPPE: Each team member runs one loop of the two-mile relay wearing their team necktie. You can bring your own or the race’s sponsor, the Baton Rouge Area Sports Foundation, will supply them.

LAGNIAPPE: Come on out and get blasted with color from head to toe as you run in this 5K. Proceeds will go to the Central Community School System for a community bike/walk path.
